    Sandmail vs Cyrus
The other day I participated in migrating our mail environment from the old host to the new one. Everything seemed to go well until we found out that the .forward is not working. It was because we upgraded from cyrus 1 to cyrus 2 and we updated sendmail configration to use cyrusv2 accordingly. So we gave w flag to CYRUS_MAILER_FLAGS to make the set of flags to match the old configration. Soon, we found out that bb+ bulletin board shared folder address stopped working. It looked like .forwad and bb+ address is mutually exclusive. We were at loss and googled a lot but was unable to find useful information.

When we were about to give up, it occurred to me that we should try cyrusv1 setting before we gave up. So we did. And it worked! By looking at the cf/cyrusproto.m4, we realized that what we really needed was to have two Mcyrus2, one with w flag and the other without that flag and force sendmail to use one without w flag when the address matches the bb+ ones. So we extracted LOCAL_RULE_0 and Rbb lines from cf/cyrusproto.m4 and created Mcyrusbb which is identical to Mcyrus2 except the deletion of w flag. After we finished it, the system has been working as expected. (The actual configuration was written by a friend of mine. I don't really grok sendmail configuration language).

After we finished configuration, we thought that it should have been obvious to us how the sendmail should be configured. But it's like Columbus' egg. It's not obvious until it IS obvious. Although I think that we wasted too much time to come up solution, I'm happy that the server is working as intended.

One good thing I found out while doing all this was that skype was quite useful. We used it because one is in New Jersey and others are in Tokyo and thought verbal communication is useful. And it was. I might used it again although I don't really use phones much.

    Howl's Moving Castle
It's been a while since I watched the movie at the end of December but I finally finished reading the original version. As I've heard, the story isn't quite the same and I could enjoy this one, too. Actually I liked the book version of the story better. The movie is more children friendly and has less twist in the story line.
