Translation project
It's hard to cooperate in translation project because many things are drudgery. Unlike software libraries, translations are not reusable. My conjecture is that if you can search and reuse translatins just like reusable software components, there's a chance of having a community around that. I'm also interested in writing tools to free translators from some of the drudgery like synching translation when changes are made to the original documents. I think gettext tools can handle that kind of things for po files but I don't know if there's any tool to do that for XML files we use. It looks so simple but it's not very easy to automate it in a satisfactory manner. It seems a bit odd for me to start writing these kind of tools after doing everything manually for four years. I've been skeptical about natural language processing because it doesn't always work well. But I changed my mind largely thanks to my summer intern experience and am willing to investigate some of my time to this field.
